Is it using the latest, non-deprecated practices? This creates a new challenge because the AI’s answer lacks provenance. It will handle the initial setup, answer basic syntax questions, and provide code examples for common tasks, dramatically shortening the time it takes for a new developer to make their first commit. For continuous learning, AI will create personalized learning paths, suggesting articles, courses, or internal documentation based on an engineer’s current work and career goals.

However, this won’t replace human mentorship. The most effective teams will use AI to handle the “what” and the “how,” freeing up senior engineers to focus on the “why.” Mentorship will shift from basic code reviews to deeper architectural discussions, strategic thinking, and instilling the team’s engineering culture and values. AI will be the ultimate knowledge base, but humans will remain the source of wisdom, context, and true inspiration.
