Microsoft will kill off Windows 7 preinstalls on Halloween 2016

MICROSOFT HAS SET the cut-off date for manufacturers (OEMs) that want sell computers with Windows 7 and 8.1 onboard.

Come the glorious day. After promising a year’s notice, Microsoft has indeed confirmed that all Windows machines will have to have Windows 10 preinstalled from 31 October 2016.

Perhaps the last humiliation, or at least admittance of Windows 8’s massive failure, is that it will cease OEM availability even earlier, in June 2016.

Windows 7 is currently allowed only in its Enterprise form as a pre-installation, and other versions were stopped this time last year. It’s OK to sell a machine with Windows 8 and 8.1, but unless you’ve got old stock why on earth would you?
