Ford Prefect isn’t going to show up and shove a Babel fish in your ear any time soon, but Microsoft is doing their part to make sure you can understand foreign languages. They’re going to unleash real-time translation on all Skype users before the end of the summer.
Skype Translator is already available in preview form as a standalone app in the Windows Store. According to Microsoft, downloads and use have skyrocketed in the last several weeks — which has a lot to do with Microsoft’s decision to ditch sign-ups for the preview.
